As an anti-hero, anti-traditional, and anti-restriction tale, this unique work by Jin Yong follows the adventures of the small-time figure Wei Xiaobao.

Born in a brothel, Wei Xiaobao's life takes a dramatic turn when he courageously rescues the underworld hero Mao Shiba. Through a series of coincidences, he ends up impersonating a palace eunuch and becomes a favored figure of the young Kangxi Emperor. As the secret disciple of the leader of Tiandihui, Wei Xiaobao is entrusted with the mission to overthrow the Qing dynasty. Despite his numerous romantic entanglements and marrying seven beautiful wives, he remains loyal to his friend, the emperor, and refuses to destroy Tiandihui due to his sense of underworld loyalty. Lacking formal skills yet blessed with fortune, he achieves countless feats and knows when to step back gracefully from his accomplishments.
