About the Museum Site
7 Mallory Street, the site of the Museum of Hong Kong Literature, is a Class II historic building in Hong Kong. Originally known as the Green House, this typical four-story Cantonese tenement was built in the 1920s and named for the green paint that once adorned its exterior walls. The revitalized building preserves its original architectural features, such as the red brick walls, Chinese-style pitched roof, wooden staircases, and French windows. The exterior walls have been restored to their early 20th-century black-and-white color scheme, reviving its historical appearance. At the Museum of Hong Kong Literature, visitors can explore the rich tapestry of Hong Kong's literary heritage. Through modern interdisciplinary arts, the museum breathes new life and vitality into this historic building, offering a deeper, more vibrant literary experience for all who visit.
